Thermaltake or Thermalright

I currently have a Thermaltake Volcano 9 with the coolmod. I'm considering getting a Thermalright SLK-800 and adding an 80mm Vantec Stealth fan. How much quieter and cooler would this combination be? Or would it be worth my while. I like the coolmod feature, because of the window on my case, but if I can get significant results from the thermalright, I'll make the switch.

Who has experience with both of these, and can safely say that the SLK-800 and Vantec Stealth would be quieter while providing better cooling? I've been using AS3, if anyone cares.

does your volcano 9 have a copper bottom? i've heard some of them do
if so then your current setup is not much worse than your proposed one, because the slk-800 will do better with a high cfm fan
i'm not sure you'd see enough of an improvement to warrant the upgrade, unless your volcano 9 is all aluminum, THEN you'll see a good improvement

Mine has a copper base, but there are little ridges on it, so it's not a flat base. I was also wondering if that was a cause for concern, as there isn't the best contact surface in the world to transfer heat, or would the AS3 do a good enough job filling in the gaps.

My main concern was heat, as if I crank up the fan on my volcano 9, it sounds like an F-14 firing up. It's really friggin loud. I wanted some good decent cooling but that is quiet as well. The Stealth fan seems to move a lot of air, and is deadly quiet.

I just wanted to know if it would work better moving air off an SLK-800 or a Volcano 9 HS.

I mean, I had the thing hooked up to a Palomino 1600+ and I had to run it fairly warm so that the fan kept an acceptable volume. I want my new Barton to be cool and quiet at the same time. What setup will work best for me?

I know it's quieter, but I was wondering if at the same volume (dB) it moves the same amount (CFM) of air.

So, by what you're saying, just stick with the volcano 9 and let the system monitor the fan speed?

what are your temps at idle and load?
i would say stick with the volcano 9 and leave the smart fan 2 on low with the manual controller.
i bet your temps will be acceptable like that, unless you have a hot case

I would say you are definately better off with the sk800. while the vol9 is big, it performs like a decent heatsink, not a excellent one... so the sk800 with a slow fan may give better cooling, for less noise.
