Guys, whats the performance of the Volcano 6Cu like? i am from India and that is the only "high-end" HSF available.
:*(...pathetic...i was planning to use it on XP 1800+ and i was thinking of OCing to 1900MHz to 2000MHz. BTW, i am using a A7V8X mobo.

it will cool, but i wouldn't suggest it for overclocking, you'll probably want the one just above that "volcano 7" at least, but it will cool a 1800+

"I don't know, what kinds are there?"

Well you should check-out some of the Australian stores for other HSF availability, not too far for shipping and hopefully not too expensive on customs fees... anyways, check out the Alpha PAL8045, the Swiftech MCX462 or even the ThermalTake Volcano 9 or the Volcano 7+ for some good heatsinks at decent prices...

I had the 6cu+. Same thing except with a 7000rpm fan. Too noisy for my tastes, but it did ok for overclocking. I oc'ed my palamino xp1700 to 1900+ without any issues. The hsf combo was rated at 40dba.

Im from australia and know of a few stores, unfortunately they DONT ship to anywhere outside australia/new zealand. :frown:

This seems to be common due to long distance credit card fraud issues.

Do you have any friends or relatives in oz?

at default clock speed on the 1800+ (1533MHz, 1.55-Vcore) with the Volcano 6Cu HSF, temp is 32C idle and 38C full load.

When overclocked to 1900MHz, with 12*160 and Vcore=1.85V, idle temp is 43C and at full load my CPU hits 54C. At idle, Heat Sink fan spins at 3200 rpm and reaches 5100rpm at 54C. Kinda loud at this point. Oh, BTW i keep the case open. So with the case closed, there is no airflow with in the case, so the temp would rise by 5-8C at idle and at full load.

And PooBaa, unfortunately i dont have any friends in Aus/NZ. i am planning to ask my friend in US to get me a VOlcano 7+, but he aint coming until late June.

 Ever wondered...how would u reset ur brain back to normal/default if u could ever overclock  it???

My Volcano6 keeps my 1800xp at around 36c with silver thermal paste. It does occasionally get up to 42c or 43c playing Quake though...

Those temps arent too bad. no casefans then to keep the closed case temp down?

palamino or t-bred? and besides, the issue with it is the Delta T ... a heatsink that can keep its minimum and maximum temps within a smaller range is usually more desirable

Like i had said, i keep the case open. Always. I have a 80mm Fan blowing directly onto the HSF and one 120mm fan blowing right over my northbridge. I have positioned the 120mm fan in such a way that half of the air is blown on Northbridge and half on the AGP card. I have placed this fan at 45degrees to the motherboard. i hope u get what i am trying to say. Of course, the AGP card is kinda parallel to the direction of air-flow from the 120mm fan.
Two of my PCI card slots right below the AGP slot are empty and thier corresponding banks open and hence the air from the 120mm fan just passes out thru those slots. getting what i mean???
