my system:

XP 2500+ Barton
asus A7N8X (non dlx)
wd 80 gig 8mb cache
512mb kingston hyper x cl.2 ddr370
geforce 2 MX400
PSU Q-teq 400W dual fan gold

i got my barton running at 169x12.5=2114Mhz cpu volt. 1.725

the weird thing is if i try to set my fsb at 170 it wont post. and my system just freezes. the only thing it was doin was blowin air. so i reset cmos and set it at the above settings and everything is working fine.

but i would like to know why it is it wont post when i set my fsb to 170.

my other bios settings:
cpu interface: optimal
memory freq. : optimal
memory timings: optimal

i'm happy with the current overclock but i want to know how far i can go. so any suggestions on what i'm forgettin r welcome.

btw. is there a program to set the fsb while running in xp?

the following boot-start or system start drivers failed to load:

does that mean my drivers arent good for my barton?

that means that you pushed your processor too hard and have corrupted some windows files, you may need to reinstall windows.

With what you've posted the only weak link I see is the video card, have you considered going to a more aggressive card.

If you get into windows, try running Prime95. They have a test that is really accurate. If you get a single error, then your processor is clocked too high/not cooled well enough. I thought I was stable at 12.5x175, but I wasn't. I'm now at 11x189 I'm stable, though slower.

XP 2500+ Barton @ 2241Mhz

MSI GF3Ti 500

thanks i'll give that a shot. btw i think its the temp. cus my highest was 57C.. a bit high i think. but at the asus probe it says 47C. but i trust the bios more. so that means i need to get a new case with lots of cooling.

Not a new case.

Adding one or two fans to your current case may help a bit... unless your case temps aren't very high. If they aren't high a better HSF will cool your CPU much better.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on

I dont think your card is holding you back from OC over 169. I have almost the same setup, and I'm using a Radeon 7000 (my 9700 is in RMA status), and my FSB is 182.

That card can handle insane AGP speed. My GeForce2 MX is running on an 89MHz AGP bus. That would need a 222.5 MHz FSB in his case.

But talking in performance that card is indeed the slowest of all components.
