It's Been a While

I was just reading over my first messages to this group about FFXI. It's
hard to believe how so very green I was. Asking about stacking crystals,
of all things. lol

Well, now my main job is Red Mage at Lv.51. My main craft is Alchemy,
which is now at Lv.81. And I must say, progress is extremely slow. I
performed 18 synths to get from 81.0 to 81.1, then another eight to get to
81.2. Four more synths got me to 81.3. Sure, the item I was crafting was
Lv.84 ALCH/Lv.23 WOOD (Ouka Ranman) but I started leveling on that when
Alchemy was Lv.78 and woodcrafting was Lv.20. So I was leveling two skills
at once. Even though there was a greater gap on the alchemy side between
my current skill level and the cap of the item I was crafting (6 levels),
and even though there was only a 3 level gap on the woodcraft side, I went
up three levels in Woodcraft in the same amount of time I went up only two
levels in Alchemy. You'd think it would be the other way around.

And I now look ahead to see what else I might level up on. ANything using
Dragon Blood is out of the question. I was going to level on things like
Intelligence Potions or Vitality Potions until I realized that Dried
Mugwort is a Lv.59 Culinary item made by drying 8 fresh mugworts. Fresh
Mugwort is 80,000 a stack.

Dragon Hearts cost, I think, 1.5 million, and the dragon blood made from
them cost, IIRC, 4.5 million a stack.

So I guess I'll keep making Ouka Ranman until I hit Level 84, and then I'll
make Composite Fishing Rods until Lv.89. Speaking of making composite
fishing rods, one of the ingredients is Cermet Chunk x2. I figured I'd go
to Delkfutt's Tower and farm magic pots and dolls to get doll shards, magic
pot shards, and golem shards. I spent two hours farming to get four magic
pot shards (1 cermet chunk) and one doll shard. Forget that. I'll just
synth HQ materials and let others go farm the items. I'll just buy them
when they're available.

After spending so much time with the game, I only have a handful of
complaints, but I don't have time to list them now. I'll make time to do
it later today or in the coming days.

When a game proceeds to be a chore, it is no longer fun.
