Overclocking Rade on 9000 non-pro

Back in October I constructed a new system. I got a Saphire Radeon 9000 64 meg non-pro as kinda a place holder card until I could afford a Radeon 9700.

Unfortunately since then I have run into some financial emergencies, and I now relize that I won't be able to upgrade for at least another year.

Fine I thought, I'll just overclock the Radeon 9000 to get better performance out of it until then.

Then I ran across this thread <A HREF="http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=747bd05fc89608b5335d628480b98366&threadid=33635239&perpage=20&highlight=radeon 9000&pagenumber=1 " target="_new">http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=747bd05fc89608b5335d628480b98366&threadid=33635239&perpage=20&highlight=radeon 9000&pagenumber=1 </A> (be warned, the thread is over 250 messages long)

The gist of it is that you can't OC a Radeon 9000 non-pro unless your running win 98 with calalyst 2.4 or lower. I was wondering if there has been any breakthrough that I'm not aware of since then, or whether this still holds true.

Friend gave me this quote:

"Don't overclock anything you can't replace."

So if you are in financial problems, don't overclock it and have it die on ya. Then you will be in big trouble.
