Sorry if this has been asked already, but I looked through several pages of threads and didn't see anything, and Toms writeup on fans is a tad old.

I'm looking to get a P4 3Ghz with HT when its actually released. Not sure which MB I'm going to go with. Still not sure which is best... BUT I do know I want a QUIET system.

These are the parts I plan on getting so far. I'd love a CPU fan with a blue light to match but not if its loud as hell.

Case:
Enermax CS-3171L-B3A $78.00 USD

Power Supply:
Antecs True Blue480 $98.99 USD

Video Card:
ATI Radeon 9800Pro

RAM:
2X Cruical 512 DDR400 (Cruical cause I'm not OC'ing)

I won't be doing any OCing so that should reduce the number of fans I need in the case. I do want to go with 2 HD's (not sure which yet) so I can RAID 0 strip them. I have heard of a new type of ball bearing system, something along the lines of liquid bearing or something...

Anyways, if you can help me pick out the fans/HS I should get for a setup like this I'd be very much appriciated.

Thanks! :)

Just go with the stock cooler!
They are quite decent.

But I'm trying to minimize noise, and maximize look. ;)

I'd rather throw out a few extra bucks to get quieter fans. And if I can get em with a nice blue light, thats iceing on the cake. :)

heh.
Well the high end P4' seem to be coming out now with a radial type heatsink as opposed to the standard fin type.
a central copper core will aluminium fins radiating outwards in a spiral.

but if you want maximum performance and minimum noise try a MCX-4000 with a super silent Panaflo 2000rpm 80mm fan.

To minimize noise and maximize look, go with the Ice Berg 1 water cooling system. It provides a bit better cooling than the <b>BEST</b> air cooling available, while being whisper quiet at 20dBA, and costing $99US. If you don't want water cooling, go with a Zalman Flower cooler if you want a quiet system without needing performance, while looking extremely pimpy. Get one of the non flower Zalmans otherwise for a quiet system with a bit better than stock cooler performance.

eBay, kick ass!

Yeah, I was gonna say that... I find the Intel-supplied coolers perfectly suitable. But I don't use their supplied thermal goop and pads. I put my own thermal grease on them... seems to work a little better.

Try this one website called www.nexfan.com- its kinda ghetto, but has all manner of fans, hopefully you can find something you are looking for. Good luck!

Maybe I'm being dumb but I don't see any LED CPU fans. What size is a P4 fan? All the LED fans I've seen are under "case fans" sections on sites. Personally I think the new quad light blue/red fan would KICK ass as a fan on my CPU, but its an 80mm fan. Also, I'm guessing, even if it fit on for some strange reason, I doubt it would provide enough cooling. If anyone can shed some light on this for me it'd be moocho gracias. :)

Most sites usually list the CFM and noise (in decibels) of the fans they sell- thats the best way to compare and contrast them, to make sure you are getting the proper noise to performance ratio.

all I did was buy a Swiftech H/S <A HREF="http:// http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod697.htm " target="_new">http:// http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod697.htm </A> and then add a fancy fan on top, I prefered the alloy shiny look <A HREF="http:// http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod505.htm " target="_new">http:// http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod505.htm </A> , but nothing stops you getting one of these <A HREF="http:// http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod556.htm " target="_new">http:// http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod556.htm </A>. . .

So all you really need is a heat sink with out a fan (or one where the fan can be removed) and then choose any case fan or even some fancy specialized coloured fan)that fits, and slap it on top! (well thats my thoery anyways)

cheers
