We've been talking about this for a while in the Graphics card Forum, and I thought it should be brought in here for all y'all to see. Pretty awesome card, too bad it's been crippled so that it won't show up the 9700/9800 when OC'ed.
I'm getting me one ASAFP!

Nice! I think I know my next video card for my secondary rig!(Got the 9700Pro for $150 off of a friend)

eBay, kick ass!

I bought from Best Buy once. Once.

Another nice look at the overclockabitlity of the 9600P, and for the first time a comparison against the cards we care most about, the 9700P, and overclocked 9500P;

Looks pretty competitive, and what a little overclocker. Just imagine what it would do with a REAL HSF and some Ram-sinks.

Yeah, I should have some stats of my own in about a week when I have time (sooner if Phial had his way).

It just makes me feel good that there is this headroom, although I will push it hard just to check and then back it off simply to see what it can do. I'd rather run at a slight overclock to maintain longevity.

I'll be sure to post the OC here too.

Oh and in reference to the last line of my first post ASAFP was yesterday at 9AM. :cool:

OK here's the link to the other thread which describes my adventures with overclocking this card.

<A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=348985#348985" target="_new">Link to Thread in Graphics forum</A>

Final Numbers. Got to Core to 531 and the memory to 358, from a base of 399/299 as the card ships.

The utility I used to go that far was Rage3Dtweak. I first tried Radlinker which would allow me to overclock higher. But I found out that it doesn't have as even increments, and when the increments are decreased then it lowers the tops end for the core. Rage3Dtweak doesn't let you go as high, except for the fact I couldn't push the card past their range, and it gave me better control. I would reommend Rage3dtweak for the average 9600P card, but if you get a 'sweet' one you may need radlinker to get the utmost out of your card if you find Rage3Dtweak doesn't let you go high enough (likely core peters out the adj. bar first).

Hope you guys get a good read out of that thread, as GeneticWeapon also adds his 9500P overclocking results. I think it's a very good study of both cards.

Enjoy!

Rage3DTweak is what I used for mine. It's a nice little app...

Yeah, I liked it too, it's the one I was determined to use long term (it's stil on my machine) but when I read some of the reviews they said they used Radlinker as it let them go beyond the 537mhz top-end of 3Dtweak. I thought that might be a concern but as it turned out my card maxed out JUST before 3Dtweak did at 533/360 (VERY final numbers), so Radlinker wasn't necessary for me (but could have been it's top end is on 4mhz from my final core speed [on stock cooling]) , found 3Dtweak allowed me the smalest increments (and hence the most control) when increaing things. Radlinker was a little more finicky and wanted LARGER intervals if you wanted to keep the top end high (top end with 7mhz jumps was 1100+mhz, top end at 2 mhz jumps was 375 mhz [below stock core])
Anywhoo, all in all a fun ride. 3Dtweak would definitely e my recommendation for day to day use, but for trying to push the absolute boundaries on this card (that can overclock more than 150+mhz) you may need Radlinker as 3Dtweak is very restricted.
