Athlon XP 1700+ DUT3C JIUHB, at 2137MHz, (12.5*171) Vcore = 1.875V, A7V8X mobo with BIOS - 1012-beta-007.
I was using the Volcano 6Cu heat sink till now. But today i changed over to the stock HSF that came with the CPU. My volcano 6Cu used to start at 5200 rpm (quite loud) at boot up and then wud come down to 3200rpm after about 45sec, tnx to the Q-Fan incorporated in my mobo. At 3200 rpm i thot nothing cud beat this, noise-wise. But my stock HSF, much to my amazement, runs at a default speed of 3200rpm!!! And when the Q-Fan kicks in the HSF runs at 2200rpm, still maintaining a decent temp range.
My Volcano 6Cu is a copper-aluminium hybrid (circular copperbase with aluminium fins) with a 5200rpm fan that blows about 35CFM of air. My stock HSF is an all-aluminium heatsink with much lower fan speed and still performs on par(well almost) with the Volcano 6Cu.
Here is the temp:
Volcano 6CU: idle - 41C, Full load - 53C
Stock HSF: idle - 45C, Full load - 54C
Kudos to AMD for bringing out the works - a very nice 1700+ and an even better HSF!!!
