Alltel uses the same technology and doesn't lock their phones. The only
question is whether Verizon will activate it. My impression has always been
that they'll activate phones that they have firmware for (meaning they sell the
phone currently or sold it at some point).
I tried porting an Alltel Nokia 6185 a few years ago, and they did activate it,
but then claimed they didn't have firmware for it, which was BS, because a
couple VZW authorized retail agents sold it in the area where I lived, and
Verizon would not have been likely to let them sell it if Verizon didn't
approve the phone for use on their network...
Does VZW sell the LX5550 now? Do any VZW authorized retailers sell it?

Ask them first, I guess...
