yo im buying some cooling stuff, a crystal orb and 8 tweakmonster ramsinks (standard size, rev. 4) for my 9800 pro, a crystal orb for the northbridge of my asus a7n8x dlx.
im also considering buying a 226w danger den peltier unit for about 40 bux.

i have an athlon xp 2700 and an slk-800 with an 80mm vantec tornado.

my question is how well can an slk-800 and a tornado cool a 226 watt peltier?
is it going to get extremely hot? is this sufficient?
i have good case cooling also.

Also does anyone have experience with this or any other Danger Den peltier? Is this a quality product? Will it need lapping?

Last question: Where the hell am i going to get a 25 amp 12v power supply for this thing? I read somethign on overclockers.com about building a power supply for it, thats within the realm of possibility.
What kind of price am i looking at for a power supply?

TY.

Long live ATI.

UM, a 226 watt peltier will give off about 300 watts of heat. A CPU gives off about 80 watts. There's no way your HSF will cool it enough. I don't even know if watercooling will be enough. A typical hotplate gives off about 75 watts.

The math is 226 watts from the pelt itself plus whatever it sucks off the processor, about 80 watts.

Ok lets assume the case ambient temperature is 25c.
The peltier is rated for 226 watts, but it probably wont perform to its maximum effeciency, so 215 watts
is realistic. The 2700+ puts out about 75-80 watts of heat... so
Th=25 + (.23)(215+75)
Thats about 90 degrees celcius, which is a really hot heatsink... Without water cooling, it would be a bad idea to get a 226 watt peltier.. Ill do the math for a whole bunch of others at www.dangerden.com
169W Potted Peltier
Th=25 + (.23)(158+75) = 78.59 C (your heatsink, very hot)80w Potted
Th=25 + (.23)(70+75) = 58.35 C
There are a couple others but theyre are none lower then 80w. So without water cooling I would strongly recommend you dont get a peltier, or do some other type of cooling for it.

And if you buy a 80W peltier it will be as good as useless with a CPU that emits 75W... the deltaT will get very close to zero that way.

To be short watercooling is the only way to use peltiers for high-end CPUs.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on :eek:
