My CPU temps change

When I first got my Cooler Master HHC-001, my computer ran at 38c or 102f. Slowly, those numbers rose to 51c and 54c. What would cause such a change? I thought it might have been the thermal compound drying up, so I took my heatsink off and broke the tab off (Sob sob, read my other post for whole story), and reapplied the thermal compound. Does the thermal coupound really make a 12c difference? Thanks for your reply

Yes the thermal compound can make a 12 degree difference, very easily.
