Yup, toothpaste is actually a very good heat conductor. For a few hours. Until it dries out. Then it's a very good heat insulator.

You'll notice that water is even better. Until it dries out. Then it's just as good as nothing at all :smile:

It's the water in the toothpaste, not the paste itself.

Check the story again... his best result was with tap water.

Yeah, I wonder what would happen if you watered down some AS3. prob just melt off i guess. Still, a brave soul might try..hmmmm

The problem with puting water in there is corrosion... even if the water didn't evaporate --or boil-- it's going to cause oxydization which will really play hell with your temperatures.

Most of these compounds are based on mineral oils, a few use organic solvents... and it's that way for a reason :smile:

I don't think you could mix water with AS3. I could be wrong but I believe it uses some oil-based medium. It would mix about as well as oil and water.

And even if you could mix the 2 it would only be a matter of time before the water evaporates, leaving you with a much thinner layer of AS3 and possibly with air bubbles.
