120mm vs. 92mm Fan for CPU cooling?

Okay, let's start with my original hairbrained theory. It's based around the general male "bigger is better" way of thinking. Take a new Thermaltake Volcano 11 Cooler, add a 120mm x 80mm fan adaptor, and mount a Thermaltake 120mm x 25mm case fan. Less power consumption, and 20 less decibles at full speed. It was a cool idea, at least.
What I gained was a much quieter system, and an extra 10 degrees Centigrade under load than before. So, after doing a lot more extensive research, it appears that the static pressure (mmH2O) is just as or more important than the CFMs.
So here's the question. What is the best (air) setup for balancing cooling power vs. sound? I'd like to stay at or under 40 dBs, although I have speed controllers, so I can get a high output (Delta?) fan and throttle it back. I have both a Volcano7+ (70mm adaptable to 92mm) and a Volcano11 (80mm adaptable to 120mm) heatsink to work with. All other info can be found through the links below.
Thanks in advance.

It is not a good idea. The thought is but the reality is far from your original hope-for outcome.

Thanks, it's running okay now ( 47C while running SETI, and the loudest part of my system is the hard drives now ). I found a no-name 120mm x 38mm fan from an old server buried in the garage that pushes a little more air while still retaining my sanity. I'm going to try to custom fab some kind of bracket to support the extra weight.
