I am curious how well PC3200 and PC3500 RAM is holding up at 1:1 FSB ratio setting with the new 865/875 chipsets. Most RAM reviews I have seen show CAS 2 modules topping out at 210-220 MHz, which doesn't leave a lot of overhead for 1:1 overclocking on a 865 board.

I would also like to see some benchmarks on overclocked P4C CPUs with identical FSB speeds but 1:1/3:2/5:4 FSB/RAM ratios. People get excited about overclocking their P4 2.4C up to 3.5 GHz, but with a 3:2 out-of-sinc ratio, I wonder if it's all that much faster in applications.

Another thought, for the extra price of CL 2 PC3500 or PC3700, you could just get a P4 2.8C or maybe 3.0 shortly.

I'm now playing around with my new Abit IS7 I865, 2.8 GHz cpu and Twinmos 3200 ram. On ratio 1:1 I got it up to 2.9 ghz. More than that and I got a lot of noise in the graphic in 3dmark. On ratio 5:4 I got it up to 3.05 ghz. more made it crash sadly. It increasd my score in 3dmark with about 1000 points. It should go higher than 218 fsb I now have. I have seen it up to 300, so why my system won't work with me I don't know.

Look at it this way, if you overclock a 2.4C to 3.6GHz at 3:2, you get your 400MHz memory speed back, so it should perform similarly to a factory stock 3.6, whenever they get released.

Yes, and on 250 fsb at 5:4 I too should get my memory-speed back, but at that speed I don't even get into windows no matter what volt I set.

This novice is confused. 3600/12 = 300 MHz memory speed. How do you come up with a 400 MHz memory speed? BTW will a 2.4C clock to 3.6 GHz? Does this require an active cooling solution and a lot of luck?

3600/12 = 300 Mhz?

Well, you are almost there. That just gives you the bus clock. With a ratio of 3:2 then memory is running at 300 * 2 / 3 = 200 Mhz (or 400 DDR).

I gather that if I took the time to read the BIOS section of my mother board manual I would find the bus clock to memory clock ratio selection?

Yeah, but who reads the manuals! LMAO!

I checked out the CPU database at www.overclockers.com to see how far people have overclocked the 2.4 (800 Mhz) but there is only one entry. It is 3.677 Ghz but water cooled.
