Hello tom's hardware, ever since I updated to Windows 8, when I join a game and play for maybe around 5 minutes, the game would crash and give me a "pbcl.dll" error

I have tried reinstall pb, restarted pc, ran the game in compatability mode and as admin, allowed pnkbstr a and b through firewall, everything, but it would not work. I could play other punkbuster games fine, just not Cod4. Any ideas on this?

I am having exactly the same problem!

I guess it's something about Windows 8. I have 2 machines and in both machines Cod4 crashed randomly when you are playing in a server with punkbuster. Lan mode is OK.. it's punkbuster and windows 8 related.

Hope there's a fix soon!

its windows 8 related and no there is no patch coming from activision. they have all but stopped supporting cod 4.
all you can do is contact microsoft and ask them to fix it.

if you have it try running the game in compatibility mode.

I think if it works in Windows 7.. maybe we need just a windows update like those compatibility fixes they release... If it works in windows 7 it's a windows 8 problem. Of course you are right.

Microsoft should fix this issue inmidiatly. They need to have gamers from they side if they want to sell windows 8.
