I have the A7N8X & 2600 Barton combo, but cant overclock it sucessfully. Does anyone out there have the same mobo and cpu? What have you changed in the bios, and what results are you getting?
thanks

ummmm ok.
First of all, the 2600 isnt a barton, or the barton isnt a 2600. The barton came in XP2500+, 2800+ 3000+ and soon 3200+.

Secondly, what else are you running? Have you got good ram or generic crap? Ditto with the powersupply. What did you try doing? raising the multiplier or increasing bus speed?

Just recently, the Barton 2600+ has been released. I believe the details are at <A HREF="http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20030604180222.html" target="_new">XBitLabs</A>.

<b><font color=blue>I agree with that solution ... because it is a logical one.</font color=blue></b>

What "cant overclock" means ?
Are you running the FSB at 167 MHz or 200 ?
Did you modify successfully the multiplier sometimes ?
Does the computer hang as soon as you modify the default values or it hangs only at very high setting ?

I have 1 512 and 1 256 micron ddr333, samsung 40 gb 7200 rpm hard drive, good 400 watt power supply, etc... I can only run at 166 mhz and below, it wont boot at 200mhz. When I change the CPU multiplier, all I get is lower than what the 2600 normally does, which is 2.13 ghz. Any sugestions on multiplier setting, or memory settings? I had the 2400 xp before and got it up to 2.26 ghz, but I havent had any luck with this puppy....

Well you probably have only access to multipliers of 13x and above. And a big leap to 200MHz will never work with your memory set to 1:1 speed... it will never be able to handle 200MHz memory bus speed. A VCore and Vdimm increasement might also help but you probably wont get a high OC from that memory.

Sorry I couldn't reply faster I was away for a couple of days and I'm reading up at the moment.

If you are one of the lucky people where the nForce2 unlocks all multipliers (this mean that they work... you can ALWAYS select them but that doesn't mean they work)... but thwe problem is your memory can't handle 200 MHz FSB. So just try increasing the FSB from 166 MHz in small steps and test stability... if needed lower the multiplier. You might need Vdimm increasements.
