I recently bought myself a new HSF, now I'm wondering about the smart fan function. Where about do I put the thermal sensor? The instructions say to put it on the underside of the CPU but I don't think that's a good place for it. Is it safe to put it there? Is there any other place that I can put it? It is ok if I just put it on the heatsink instead of the CPU? Or will that cause an incorrect temp reading resulting in an RPM thats too low?

It will be the best place to put it. The fan will need to vary its speed base on cpu temp.
If you place your thermal sensor somewhere else, fan might not speed up as cpu temp climbs.
