Hey everyone,
Well i'm out shopping again in a few days for a printer and a scanner. So does anyone here know any good review sites where i can get some info? Tom's doesnt have [-peep-].
And hey if you can recommend something here's my requirements.
Printer is going to be used for printing Word documents 99% of the time. I have a HP 610c Currently which is perfect for the job but is very troublesome and it's been bugging us a lot lately.Does usb2.0 have any advantage?
The scanner is going to be used both for scanning photos (Duh!) And also for a lot of OCR-ing. So any recommendations/heads ups? Thanks a lot

Cannon seems to make the best printers. They're the cheepest to operate and the print quality is level with HP. Lexmark makes the worst quality and HP makes the most expensive to operate (something like $0.22/page compared to Cannon's $0.08/page)
For a photoscanner, Epson makes the best. They include an attachment that lets you scan slides and negitives. That's about the only thing that puts them above the competion though.
Don't ask me about those all-in-one printer/scanners though. I have no info and wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole.

Knowan likes you. Knowan is your friend.
I plugged a Epson 2400 scanner in and had a go with it, The software is really good and easy to use, you can choose basic or advanced, advanced lets you change everything, you can scan in up to 12,000dpi (enhanced), It has a large slide lamp that runs the full length of the lid which would let you do a full 35mm strip of several slides, it runs off USB2 so its not really slow.
Printers, If all you need is a printer to do word documents then get a I320 canon, they do a reasonable photo (2400 x1200dpi) they are cheap to buy and run, and cartridges are cheap too.
USB2 is faster than USB, the USB guys are trying really hard to get up to firewire speed, apparently Firewire is owned by apple and people dont want to pay royalties to mac
Well i couldnt find a side by side comparo of printers and scanners on the net but a pc mag here did one a month ago so i consulted that and here's what i came up with.
Scanner:
Hp 2300c 1200*600 Dpi USB ( not 2.0 ) . It has the best scan times in the base models (home user) and is prett good at OCR too. Unfortunately they didnt do Epson Scanners so i dont know what you're talkin about. Can you guys link me perchance? Oh and the Hp's closest competitor is The UMAX Astra 2500 which is pretty good according to the mag tests but i dont really want to go UMax's way because i've had some really sour experiences with their 2000P and Customer Support. Well Should i take the chance?
ABout the Printer i havent yet finalised on it but The i320 is about 7000 bucks here and an HP 3325 and 3420 are 3000 and 4000 respectively with almost the same performance levels, Well I'm confused here. A l'il help pleaseeeeee.
