Compaq presario problems

My 5005 sr with Windows Me is attempting to boot up. I hit the power button
I get the options 1 2 3 for normal, safe, and one other option. Whn I choose
normal it says SUREG failed. Then I get some error message such as run
SCAnReg. Of course the computer goes to safe mode ( complete gray/white
screen with word safe) no matter what button i hit nothing happens. I cant
get to a dos prmpt or window.

When puter first comes up prior to safe mode it says "new hardware found
install driver". No matter what dir i click no drivers are there to choose.
I look at the options it says A: and C: nothing about the Cd rom drive as
though its not installed. Perhaps a step as far as download the cd rom
driver on a floppy ? I dn know what driver it is looking for.

One thing helped... The computer prior to boot I hit f10 i get the set up
bios, I selected default settings and nothing happens there. I tried to run
ide test in bios and puter attmepts test but stops running after a while. I
can get into bios/and a safe mode blank screen. The computer responds to
ctrl/alt/del.

I tried the compaq recover disk it attempts to work and get a huge red
screen says contact compaq error w/ recovery disk. Any ideas ?
