My xbox 360 wont pick up internet connection

Hello,
i have an older model 360 and i tried connecting internet to it via router, i used a ethernet cable frm the router to the 360 and it keeps telling me that i need to connect the ethernet cable to the router..i tried switching cables but still got the same result

The ethernet port on the 360 is probably fried? Just a possibility. Depending how old and used it is.
