Playable games with build.

Hello, Just wondering which card to go with. I know that an HD 7850 is better than a 7770, and I know there are even better cards. As I am looking for a $200-ish USD card a 7850 seems feasible, but will a 7770 play most of today's games? Phenom 2 x4 965BE and 8GB RAM. A first time build so I'm sure there is a lot of live and learn here, but I'd rather not have to upgrade the GPU for a year or two, if possible. Not a multi-player, either.
