Can overclocking on the new p4 chips such as the 2.8c which I have corrupt your harddrive files? I know that you usually push your system until it fails when overclocking to see what your max point is.. but I am afraid if I start experimenting with oc'ing that I could corrupt the data on my harddrive. This happened once before while overclocking a p3 system, and I don't want it to happen again on my new p4 system.. please help..

NEW SYSTEM:
P4 2.8c (800fsb), Abit IS7, Kingston HyperX PC3500 (2 x 512mb), IBM Deskstar (60 gig @ 7200rpm)
OLDER SYSTEM:
P3 850mhz (100fsb), Asus CUV4X, 620mb Micron PC133, WD 40gig 7200rpm

Only if your memory/CPU are giving calculating errors while you're saving... that is why you first test the CPU and memory stability with Memtest86 and Prime95 before fully using the system.

Another possibility is if the PCI clock gets to high, but I think your mobo locks the AGP and PCI speeds. But maybe someone who knows that boardçhipset better can tell that for sure.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM

I overclocked to 3038 (220 x 14 @ 1:1)... it's running fine right now and I can run all the Sandra benchmarks... but for some reason I can't run Prime95.. Prime95 stops with an error after about 5 seconds when I start the torture test...

My ram timings and vCore and vDimm voltages are stock right now and it's running stable?

How do you know what to raise these voltages too? and how high can I safely go? Is there reason to raise them if I am running stable now?

So basically I don't know what's up with Prime95.. it's weird..

Also, another weird thing is that I can run stable with a 220 memory fsb, but when I go to 270 cpu fsb with the 5:4 ratio, my computer won't boot at all.. won't even POST.. and it makes these real long continuous Beeping noises.. so I have to power down and then change the CMOS jumper on the motherboard to clear the BIOS and then redo all my settings again.. a real PITA..
So basically I need a better method of overclocking I guess..

Try some other CPU testing programs like SuperPI... Prime95 can in some rare cases crash due to software errors.

I don't think your memory is having problems, but you can test it by using Memtest86 for some hours. If it doesn't run stable set the Vdimm to 2.7V and if that doesn't work 2.8V, those voltages are still safe. If you want to increase VCore do it just 0.05V.

And I'm not surprised 270MHz FSB doesn't work... your mobo will probably not handle that or the CPU (270*14=3780 MHz) can't handle the very high speed.

I lot of people say that it should.. I tried 270fsb at the 4:4 ratio with vCore at: 1.65v and vDIMM at 2.8v and nothing... it wouldn't even post.. I had to swith the jumper to clear cmos and do all my settings again..

I don't think it's my memory, because right now I am running 220fsb at 1:1 with stock voltages, and timings and I don't really have problems.. besides Prime95 not running..

But everything else seems stable..

So I tihnk it might be my CPU.. what should I do to test if it is the CPU..?
