I was planning on buying a 2.4ghz 800 fsb proc with HT and underclocking it on my gigabyte mobo with the granite bay chipset (8inxp). the mobo normally runs at 133 fsb, but i plan to run it at somewhere around 150-175. I hear that this mobo's performance increases quite well when the mobo is OC so the memory is running at 333 DDR (166 fsb). This would make my proc run under specs though at about 2.0 ghz. The only reason why i would do this is because this is the cheapest HT proc that intel sells at the moment.

My question is, would this setup with the hyperthreaded proc at 2.0ghz run better than a 2.53 ghz proc with no HT OC to 3.15 ghz? Of course, to get this speed, i would still be running my mobo @ 166 fsb and the mem at 333 ddr. So, which one do u think would give more performance? Or at what speed do u think the 2.53 proc would be on par with the underclocked 2.4ghz HT proc?

Also, I will be doing water-cooling for the proc, so do u think i can even reach 3.15ghz with the 2.53 proc? Or is 150*19 = 2.85ghz a much more probable quest? And if so, will this be better than the 2.4 HT proc?

Is there anybody here that can answer this question????? Anybody?

Would i be better off using a processor with a higher clock speed or one that sacrifices clock speed to allow hyperthreading? At what speed difference between the two processors do you think hyperthreading would no longer win out?

Depends on which apps you use and if they're optimized for HT or just need raw processing power.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM
