I live in a frenge area and my qualcom phone goes in and out most of the
time. Does anyone have any experience as to which phone might be better in
frenge areas. I have traveled all over the lower 48 and get lousie service
in my back yard.

I have been using an LG VX6100 for about a year (1x data capability). It
would often switch from no service to service within my office - two
large windows overlooking the city on the 6th floor of a highrise.
I just switched back to my Motorola 270c (dual band/tri mode) and it keeps
a solid signal, hands-down.
If you can get a Mot 270c from anywhere, I highly recommend it. It is
probably the best CDMA phone for signal next to the older Motorola Startac
7868w, another phone I have and love.

After having the same experience, also in the city, with an LG 4400, I
just got the Motorola V710. No problems in all the trouble spots where
the LG failed completely and just dropped calls and reported no signal.
The 710's bluetooth and transflash card etc. have been "crippled" by VZ
so that you have to use their get-it-now service.
But for signal strength and holding onto a call, going into analog when
necessary, etc., I find this phone as good as my old StarTac. It also
has a truly awesome speakerphone which is very convenient. And I almost
never even have to raise the antenna.
