Well my CPU is running too hot. It's at 52ºC without anything running. After I'm finished running games it's around 58C. The mobo temp seems to be alright at 34ºC. I also have a problem with games crashing to the desktop after I've been playing for a while and I'm suspecting the high CPU temp.

So I was wondering if I should change out my HS and what I should get to replace it. I don't have the comp in my bedroom but I don't want it to sound like a jet engine either. I was looking at some heatsinks from Speeze but I'm unfamiliar with the company so if anyone has tried out some of their heatsinks, tell me what you think.

I have an ASUS a7n8x dlx, Athlon 2800 xp, ATI Radeon 9700Pro, 2 x 512 Corsair PC2700 CAS 2.0, 480watt SilentPower PS, 80GB SATA Seagate HD.

All of this in an Antec Sonata Case. I currently have the HS that came with the processor and one Antec 120mm exhaust fan. There are only two spots for case fans, each 120mm. Nothing is overclocked and I don't plan on overclocking this system.

I dont think your temps are high enough to cause crashes

is just one game or many ?
to answer the question ,Speeze makes a goog HSF , I used the falcon rock , the one with copper insert
only $10 @newegg very quiet & cool well ( not sure if its rated for 2800 though )
you may also put in a fan for intake , low rpm 120mm
also try relax your memory timings 2.5-3-3-6
update drivers ,direct x , etc.

i'd definitelly look into another heatsink, and not the falconrock (won't be able to support it).. I'd say go with a swiftech MCX462 with a good fan (thermal smartfan 2 perhaps) to keep your temps a lil lower... and yeah, you definitely need a 120mm intake fan as well.

Are you overclocking at all?

I hate Computers! I could only overclock my Barton 2500+ to 2580mhz(vcore 1.65). My Radeon 9700pro core/mem speed won't go above 410/720. I really hate computers!

How high is your system temp, and how many system fans do you have?

I almost have the same config, except I have a Barton 3000+ (2167 Ghz), OC'd to 2200Ghz. System temps run at around 32C, with 5 fans. CPU temp around 35C idle, 42C load. CPU is cooled with a Thermaltake Volcano 10+ with good amount of Arctic Silver 3.

I get the crash to desktop for 4 different games. I have DX 9, all the games are patched, latest video drivers, system drivers, 1.005 BIOS, and regularly sacrifice small animals to Bill Gates. Nothing is overclocked. I only have 1 system fan used for exhaust and room for one more fan because of the way the case is built (unless I start cutting holes in the thing and let's not do that unless we have to). I would get a different case but I don't have the room for one right now.

So I need a good 120mm system fan that won't make too much noise and is at most 40mm deep. Even 40mm would be pushing it as the IDE connectors on the MB are right there. Oh and the system temps right now just surfing the net are at 32C, after I quit my games I've yet to see it over 36C.

Oh and I ordered a new Speeze RaptorCool I HS for the CPU.

Yeah, my CPU (Athlon T-Bird 1Ghz) Runs at about 70 C or more under load... I have 2 case fans and my PSU fan... Air flows from bottom front across HDs to out of the upper back... Any Ideas? I use the Heatsink that came with it...

umm, is that your cpu socket temperature or cpu diode temperature. Because if it's diode temperature, feel lucky since 85C is the meltdown temperature, and if that's socket temperature, I think you've alrdy melted a couple layers off your CPU because I did that to my 1700+.

I hate Computers! I could only overclock my Barton 2500+ to 2645mhz. My Radeon 9700pro core/mem speed won't go above 410/720. I really hate computers!

What should I do? I don't know if m CPU has a diode... It's an Athlon. I have the case off and right now it's running at 64 C under load.

It is the diode temp under the socket, only XPs have intergrated heat diodes which are very rarely used though.

Thta is a very high temp... if you touch the heatsink when you're running it for some hours is it to hot to touch? If so I recommend a better heatsink, if not the diode temp is wrong (socket-diodes aren't very accurate and badly calibrated).

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM

Hmmm.... When the temp readout it 62 C, the heatsink feels a little bit warmer than warm or less than hot I would say... I'll see if I cant get a thermometer on it...

If my case is closed and my CPU is iin the upper 60's lower 70's my Mobo temp says 42 C

I don't think the heatsink is actually touching the CPU core that well, so there's very bad conduction.

I hate Computers! I could only overclock my Barton 2500+ to 2645mhz. My Radeon 9700pro core/mem speed won't go above 410/720. I really hate computers!

Well, I just replaced the manufacturer's little pad and put some synthetic stuff on there about 2 months ago and it's only been getting up past 62 C the last 2 weeks...
