Can anyone help with the following. I've already done some research but
not found exact answers.

a) sound control button does not work, when trying to play windows sound
alerts i get: "cannot play sound-your soundcard may already be in use",
sound is enabled in bios through joystick sound driver. windows lists
many sound drivers, but no ess drivers listed. gamejoystick driver and
modem wave driver listed and no conflicts in device manager. Many have
had windows crash problems trying to deinstall and reinstall sound
drivers for this machine. What is the safe way to do this? I do not have
a functional wind95 cd right now, just the cab files. I do have the
compaq driver install disk for the ess drivers.

b) loud beeping even when 45 minutes remaining on battery. battery gauge
is very screwy, never gives accurate report.

c) modem works under dun1.4 and windows fax program but is not
recognized by dos fax pgms. i get: modem not responding. modem will not
respond to at commands under dos. modem appears under device manager and
responds to "more info"/diagnostic command with report of all
information, I just cannot get it to work under dos. Also get: cannot
open port.

Thanks for any helpful information.

REF: "C" have you checked for a DOS version driver? Some hardware has
separate drivers for DOS and Windows.
