I have a barton 2500 and an A7N8X dlx rev 2.0 with corsair XMS pc3200 memory (512)

whenever i try to overclock to the 2.4 ghz barrier, i set my fsb to 200*12 for 2400 and my memory timings to aggressive. Shouldn't my memory be able to run at 200 mhz! my vcore is at 1.725. i have watercooling so heat is not the issue. what is wrong?? Should i set special memory timings or change the mult?
thanks in advance!

John get the Vcore to 1.75, then Asus automatically overvoltage that to 1.90 then for your ram increase the Vdimm to 2.7 what's your ram timing?

I hate Computers! I could only overclock my Barton 2500+ to 2645mhz. My Radeon 9700pro core/mem speed won't go above 410/720. I really hate computers!

Of course your ram can handle 200FSb, because I have HyperX 2700+ rated speed 166, and it handled 231. Asus bios sometimes gets drunk and messes up your memory timing, you should modify the memory timing in the bios yourself. Start with safe limits, 7-3-3-2.5, then go down to 5-2-2-2 if your ram can handle it, I think corsair support Vdimm of 2.8 so might as well overvoltage that. Change the ram performance to user defined first of course.

thanks for the help, i managed to boot to windows now! At 200*12 and ram timings of 7-3-3-2.5 with 1.75vcore and 2.8 vdimm.
But when i run 3dmark2001 se it will crash after some tests. My gfx card is a R9700 NP OC'd to 325/303 and i ran this configuration before w/o any problems. Any sugggestions?

I'm not sure John, try turning your multiplier down to 11.5 and get your FSB up to 210, you'll get more performance this way.

1 more thing John what's your temperature at and what's your cooling on your CPU?

Make sure your AGP frequency is set at auto.

My temp is @ 28C on my cpu, i have watercooled cpu and gfx card, I will lower my mult and see if that helps, thanks

Ok I tried 210*11.5 and restarted, hehe, my computer made sounds that i have never heard a computer make - eek! Now my sound doesn't work, i think it deleted the drivers somehow.

Are you using the mobo's built in sound card? or are you using some other expansion card.

If computer's not booting at 11.5* 210, go up to 1.8 vcore, you have watercooling so you don't have to worry about a thing.

Better not use 5-2-2-2-2 at 200MHz FSB and use 6-2-2-2-2 instead... people report data corruption with 5T Tras above 166MHz.

Anyway to check if the RAM is causing the instability and not the CPU run Memtest86 set to test WITHOUT cache.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM

I strongly advise if you have a decent power supply (+5 stable) max the voltage to 1.85, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Keep it working at this max voltage for all your tweaking, this way you will always know that it's not to do with lack of core voltage.

You still have lots of different settings to messa round with and the last thing you need is for lack of core voltage to crash your machine when your changing other settings, coz that will confuse you.

When you feel you have got everything working stably as far as you can take the other settings then bring your vcore back down step by step until it crashes then go bak up one. good luck. BTW I experienced that when it was too low a vcore the BSOD error was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. That might help you a bit. Good luck.

Thanks hatimh, i've actually come across that message a few times "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" - never knew what it meant. I do now! thanks !

I cant really seem to get any good configs to work over 200 fsb.. Anyone know any good configs that work well on these boards/memory? I have 2500+ A7N8X dlx, and corsair XMS CMX 3200 (512) My main problem is setting memory timings. Anyway to so calculate ones that will work? Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

I would go for 6, 2, 2, cas2

I've heard there could be data corruption going with 5. I'm no expert but with your quality of memory you should easily hit 6, 2, 2, 2 @ 200 fsb and more too.

You need to make sure you've tried 2.8v DDR reference voltage too. Mine wouldn't reach 200 without that. But I'm using corsair DDR333 value select ram though. Your RAM is way better.

Do you have the normal or Low Latency (LL) version of the XMS3200? The LL runs at 2-3(or)2-2-6 rock stable, while the normal version is made to run at 2-3-3-6.
