im planning to oc a 2500+ to 200*11 with a thermalright slk800 ($100 AUD) and a thermaltake smartfan II ($25 AUD), has any1 else got this setup? and is it worth spending $20 AUD more for a thermaltake ducting mod? or not? (btw AUD stands for Australian Dollars... yes im in australia)and is there anything better for a cheaper price? i heard some guy talkin about falcon rock 2 or something for $10 and he oc v well..... dunno.... so any other suggestions?

thx

**EDIT** what about the swiftech mcx462+? it also costs $100 AUD (same as thermalright slk 800) with a thermaltake smartfan 2 and ductingmod?
Edited by mike88 on 07/24/03 05:46 AM.

Well depends on your motherboard, I used Swiftech MCX462+ because SLK900U didn't fit on the A7n8x. If you're alrdy spending that much money, might as well get the SLK900U.

I hate Computers! I could only overclock my Barton 2500+ to 2645mhz. My Radeon 9700pro core/mem speed won't go above 410/720. I really hate computers!

For 2.2ghz, it all depends on how much voltage the chip needs to do that speed. If it does it on 1.7-1.75 volts then the SK7 and smartfan will keep it below 45C. The 800 isnt that much better than the SK7. Indeed some tests ive seen, the SK7 out-performed the 800 by 0.5C.

Just to show you how good the SK7+smartfan combo is. I have my tbred 1700 running at 2376mhz on 1.86 volts and now the arctic silver 3 has settled, it hardly goes above 55C load in a room thats 28C ambient. On a cool day its 5-8c lower.

Don't get the ducting mod... it wont help anything (more likely decrease cooling performance).

The Thermaltake SLK800 would be better then the Swiftech MCX462+... the Falcon Rock 2 is nice for its price but doesn't come close to the cooling capabilities of the Thermalright SLK800 and Swiftech MCX462+.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM

I'm actually using this , slk800u + TT smart fan II on A7N8X 2.0 , I set the fan rpm around 2500 , very Quiet
Max load temps (prime95) 45 degC in a 30 degC room ( summer temps here in USA)
I like it , running 11x200@1.7v from day 1

What's your CPU and what's it clocked at?

got my 1700+ running at 2200 MHz 11 * 200, 1.725v. It's really good for me because I'm using corsair value select DDR 333 RAM (6, 2, 2, 2.5) I never thought it would EVER get to 200 LOL.

I'm using a globalwin cak2 38 with the delta fan but I've done the 7v trick with the fan and it's running very quietly.

idle 39 and full load about 48.
