Hello,

I'm holding out for Haswell before I upgrade, but should I be worried about FC3.

My Q6600 + GTX460 is giving a comfortable 40-50 FPS in World of Tanks @ 1920x1080 and has been a good little system for many years. Will I need a graphicx upgrade for FC3 before a new processor?

You won't be able to run it on ultra but you should be okay. It doesn't seem that CPU intensive. I have an i3 2100 and HD 7850 and I get about 40-45 in vegetated areas and about 50-60 out in the open. All my settings are ultra @ 1080p and 8x MSAA.

You're getting around 20 FPS with the settings you mentioned

As for nmb255 You will be able to play the game but unless you overclock your CPU it's not going to be pretty.

Well I really am. I'm using RTSS to measure my FPS while playing and they are really my averages. I have my core clock overclocked to 1050mhz from the reference 860. Maybe that's why? The readings are not wrong because the game does play very smooth, of course it drops to about 20 when a grenade goes off in my face but that's normal.

Also, they are probably not using the beta drivers, there is a BIG performance boost in the beta drivers.

I get only a few fps better on my rig and I have a 3770K @ 4.5 and two 7970s in crossfire... No idea how you are getting that kind of framerate on those settings/hardware.

I have a AMD Phenom II X6 @ 2.8Ghz and GTX 660... Never got more than 40-50 fps throughout the game at those settings and that resolution...
Currently playin at 1366 X 768 with high settings 2X MSAA and I get 60-70 fps... It varies at various places though...

So, you're saying that you get better performance than the Radeon 7970????

Stop being misleadng and look at the facts.

It's always critical to find balance between GPU and CPU. If you don't find balance, then the first will drag the performance Down of the other.

Upgrading either your CPU or GPU right now will bottleneck. But upgrading the GPU is always the best way to get better framerates, if you already own a decent CPU, so I would start upgrading the GPU.

We're talking about Far Cry 3 here, not Far Cry 1.

Thanks that sounds pretty sensible and way I take this forward. When Santa brings the game next week I'll see how it plays and if it needs anything I'll consider GPU upgrades first and hopefully I'll manage to hold out for Haswell before CPU needs a boost.

Well I checked over my settings again and played for a while. I am getting those readings and the game plays very smoothly. The graphics look perfect too. lol I'm not trolling you guys, those really are my settings and reading. Just for an example, I run BF3 on ultra and get about 35-45 on a 64 man server in a hectic map. Is that about right?

Happy to report that the Q6600 + GTX460 manage to handle Far Cry 3 fairly well.

I would say a GPU upgrade would be better for far cry 3 than a proc.

NO a huge amount of point waiting for haswell as it won't be a huge upgrade and not many games need more power than a 2500k at 4.6ghz can give

I Have ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphic Card (Intergreted). It Has 1915 MB But I Try To Run Far Cry 3 and I Can't Seem To Tap 30 FPS, So I Was Thinking I Should Get A New Graphics Card. My PC Specs:
HP Pavilion Dv4 Notebook Series
AMD Turion X2 Ultra 64 ZM-80 2.1 Ghz
4 Gb Of Ram
359 Gb HDD
Should I Upgrade Or What ?
The Average FPS I Obtain Is 15 FPS. I Know My
Graphics card Is Bad But Still Any Other Tweaks. I've Also Tried "PostFxQuality=False" tweak But It Just Drops My FPS By 6, And 9 FPS Isn't Playable.Or Should I Add Ram Or Buy A New Graphics Card ?

Make your own thread if you want help. Your whole laptop is bad so you need a new one or a desktop to play it
