Ok. I'll be getting my new system in a few days, and I want to overclock it. A few questions:
1. How long do you normally wait to overclock, or should I use a burn in program and go hard on the first day?
2. Is the original bios fine or do you want to instal new bios? I'm getting a A7N8X-deluxe.

1. It is best to let the thermal paste work in for some hours first by running a burn-in program... especially if you use pre-applied thermal goop.

2. The default BIOS will give you enough options... with modern boards special BIOSes are very rare (only some low-budget mobo's have them because those BIOSes are very limited). And in case you want to select more voltage then your BIOS support there is only one solution: voltage mod.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM

Thanks. Oh and I'm ordering 3 2500+'s one for me and two for two friends. Is there any way to tell which one will be the best overclocker out of the box? i.e. is there a preformance certificate or anything or do you have to try them all out?

Hopefully I get lucky and have a cpu to beat scottchen.

1.) I overclocked my 1700 to 2.2ghz straight away but temps were in the 50's so i left it at that for a few days then bumped it up to 2376 for stress testing and its sitting @ 2.3ghz for now so I can have my fans on silent mode and keep temps under 50C now the AS3 has settled.

2.) Always update bios to the latest version when overclocking.

What cooling are you getting?

If your lucky you will hit 2.2ghz on stock voltage, 2.3 if your very lucky and over 2.4 is a 1 in a million or there abouts (on stock voltage). Average for 1700 on 1.85 volts is 2.3ghz. Same for barton 2500 or there abouts. Some will only do 2ghz on stock and 2.2 on 1.9V.

Remember my speed was achieved with Air Cooling. Vcore at 1.775, but for some reaon Asus overvoltage that to 1.85 and occasionally hit 1.92

I hate Computers! I could only overclock my Barton 2500+ to 2645mhz. My Radeon 9700pro core/mem speed won't go above 410/720. I really hate computers!
