after reading around im still not sure wat the latest stepping is for the barton 2500+... ive also heard of a brown chip.. a grey chip and a green chip... do the colours represent something? and is AQXEA the lastest stepping? E does come after D in the alphabet... and the AQXEA would be better at overclocking wouldn't it?

The PCB colors mean nothing, but the core colors mean a lot... a grey core will OC better then a purple one.

AQXEA is the latest stepping yes and from what it looks it is a good OC'er... at the same level as the AQXDA and perhaps even higher.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM :eek:

I just ordered an AQXEA with a grey core, so if you want to know how good it is, I'll be putting it in my pc on monday and will keep you all updated :wink:

Where did you get your chip? Where do you buy the most overclockable 2500+?

thx for that... but can u tell me which core colour is the best out of them all? so AQXEA with a grey? or wat?

edit... wats the FSB:DRAM ratio? should that always be 1:1 ? like is 1:1 keeping the 2 clocks synchronous?

he already said grey was...

For an athlon system synchronous is best

3 386DX-25's...12 volts...glue some ln2 and a wicked amount of overclocking and you get a willamantee minus 36 pins, 33.75 million transistors and a couple hundred mhz... :cool:

The greyer the core, the higher the quality. A grey core means it came from the centre of the wafer, thus is more efficient at letting electricity run through it for it to do its stuff. All this means is that you need less voltage for higher speeds.

Heres an example. My 2100 looked like a purple/grey mix in colour, and wouldnt do more than 2.333ghz even with 2.1 volts, (yeah I did try this). My 1700 is more grey than purple in colour and is a later stepping and does 2.4ghz on 1.875 volts. At 1.95 volts it would probably do 2.5ghz but will need better cooling.

FSB:DRAM ratio should be 1:1 because if you change it to anything else, the latency will be greater than the performance gains from running a higher FSB.

My AQXEA is doing some burning in at 2088 MHz at default VCore (I'm still not sure if it is grey, green or green/purple :lol: ... I can get any color out of it)... 35 C with watercooling after hours of full load.
