Do it with VZW customer service on the phone.
Retail store would be my last choice

Oh, and what "premium price" are you refering to?
The price should be the same except for possibly
some equipment or accessory deals on the website.
Phone pricing is very dynamic, but the online sites I've researched
(letstalk.com, inphonic.com, wirefly.com, myphonefinder.com) all seem to
have much lower prices than the local retail stores here. My posting simply
asks for feedback regarding the reliability of these sites, especially since
I will be transferring the landline phone # which I have had for 20 years.
Thanks,
-Brian

Ok... I don't know the deals/conditions/etc.
How about this. Call VZW customer service
and tell them you want to discuss exactly what
you want to do, your alternatives, and itemized
price. I'd think they would be happy to go through
everything with you. Then you would have a lot
more information and prices for comparisons. I
wouldn't hesitate to ask them what they think
about purchasing through the websites you are
considering.

Just read the fine print very carefully. The lower prices on the internet
sites are generally created through the use of rebates. Most of the rebates
seem to work a similar way. You need to wait 3 months before submitting the
rebate request and have a limited time window in which to submit the
request. I would guess that there would be a delay in the processing of the
rebate also, Ultimately, if you jump through all the hoops properly, you
may get the phone at the price you expect but it won't come quickly.

My experiance (all over the country as I travel) is that the information
provided by VZN CS and VZN stores is often wrong. With most misinformation
seemingly provided to 'make the sale'.

Ofcourse you can do it reliable online these days. In fact you can
search for offers from all carriers in one place instead of comparing
store to store to see what different Carriers are offering. My choice
to start would be at http://www.wirelessphone.com
