I know this might sound like a stupid thing to post, but many ppl overlook it. After a few months of use, you hsf will get clogged with dust and the fan wont be able to push air through it nearly as well. To prove this, i recently cleaned off my thermalright slk800 and i restarted and my temps dropped 5C. The cleaning took all of 3 minutes with a damp rag. With other coolers the difference might not be as dramatic due to the design of the slk,s but for everyone who is running one, make sure to keep it clean if you are overclocking and like to keep your low temps.

System: XP2600 oced to 2.4GHZ, 512mb corsair pc2700 oced to 192mhz x2, 36Gb 10k rpm WD SATA, 80GB Western Digital A7N8X Deluxe, Radeon 9800 pro

5C are you sure? That is a massive difference are you sure you installed the heatsink properly the first time?

I hate Computers! My P4 2.4C won't go above 3840mhz. My Sapphire 9800pro core/mem speed won't go above 490/790. I really hate computers!

yeah are you sure the damp rag didnt make any difference? Just the presence of a small amount of moisture on the HSf could have prevented the temperature going so high.

I've done this before. It's true. Efficiency of the HSF or radiator will drop as dust builds up. You should remove the HSF from the computer and clean it with a damp cloth, compressed air, or better yet soak it and rinse it in warm water (be sure to remove the fan first).

You should do this about every 6 months to a year depending on conditions.

My new Antec case has a removable, washable dust filter behind the front of the case. You'd be amazed how much crap it stops from entering my case.

 My CPU runs so hot it creates a quark-gluon plasma

This is the problem with MicroFin coolers, the closer the fins are, the faster they get clogged with dust.
