Some advice on noiseless fans?

Can someone please give me some advice on SILENT case fans? I currently have 2 Sunbeam fans running here, but they remind me of a plane taking off... I H-A-T-E noisy fans! Can someone PLEASE advice me what fans to get that are really silent?

Also I have installed an Intel fan (from the box) on a P4 3.0 Ghz CPU. Now beside the Sunbeam noise masters, this fan is also generating a huge amount of noise, can I replace this fan with another silent fan, or is that a dumb thing to do?

Is it a bad thing if there is smoke coming out of my case?

Check out the Zalman casefans, their website is Here Their casefans can run in silent mode which is completely inaudible.

Never heard of it before, but I'll give it a try since I'm so desperate... ever sat next to an industrial fan before? It's nothing compared to my current noise level from my case! Well thanks for the pointer. I just hope that my hearing remains with me long enough to experience those silent Zalman fans, lol.

Is it a bad thing if there is smoke coming out of my case?

Well, their 80mm fans are really cheap, I think I know what you mean by extremely loud, I used to sit beside 2 Vantec Tornados each pushing 56dBa+, now I got speed control:)

ordered 2 Zalman 80mm fans as a tryout, and if they give me good results then I'll replace all fans in this crappy case with Zalman fans. Now the thougher challenge to find a better CPU fan...

Is it a bad thing if there is smoke coming out of my case?

check-out the zalman heatsinks as wel, they're decently priced and are quiet as hell... the CNPS7500AlCu is a good choice for a fast processor and good noise control

Funny you should mention that product, because I went out and brought one. Before this my system was very noisy. I've decleared a sort of crusade against noise, I plan to fit a new heatsink on the mobo fit the Zalman heatsink to my GPU and change the fans in my 350 watt PSU. I may also invest in acoustic padding.

Verdict: It's top dog. If you want to do some overclocking but want to keep noise down to a minimum but it. The only thing I will say is that the arm that holds the 92mm fan in place is a bit tricky to fit, trying to line it up with the holes with one hand and a screw driver in the other...

I also sorted out my overclocking problem. I found that my mainboard FSB was locked to the AGP/PCI and ram speeds. I unlocked the both of them i.e. kept them at there defaults 66/33 for the AGp/PCI and 333 for the ram and along with the Zalman I got my 2.4C upto 3 gigs, with the fan still set on silent mode!! To be honest it hasn’t made a lot of difference because the GPU is the bottle neck (5600 non ultra)

only thing i would be careful with is replacing those PSU fans - make sure you get fans that are either the same or better cfm as the one's you're replacing, because you don't want to fry your psu.. also, check your northbridge temps, that might be the prob in OCing.. also, a 350W PSU? you must be kidding - get something more powerful dude

SLK900U with same cfm fan does beat the top zalman product.

I killed 2 Generic 350 watt psu alrdy. By working it too hard(oops), I didn't know I could kill psu by overloading it I thought it just wouldn't turn on or wouldn't work as well. But oh well I took the lesson the hard way, my psu gave up and fried my mobo with it, however there's always warrenty:)

My PSU (350 Watts) delivers power cleanly through the 3V 6V and 12V (I think thats right) channals. Although is overclocked to 3Ghz, my system is not overloaded with extras like sound cards, TV cards, break out boxes, fan controllers etc.

You right the SLK900 is the best heatsink, but its a lot of money and it doesn't come with a fan.

If you quiet stuff check out quietpc.com they have a range of products form Northbridge heatsinks, to VGA heat pipes as well as quiet fans.

Papst fans are probably the best make if you want quiet.
