Angel's been laptop shopping!
Here's the best deal I could find:

Compaq Armada N1020V (311)
P4 2.0 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 32M VGA, 14.1" tft, 30GIG HD, 56k Modem, LAN, DVD-ROM with XP PRO.

Sounds cool.
All I can recomend is getting a 5400rpm hard drive.
The typical 4200rpm notebook drives are really slow and are the worst bottle neck on portables.
I wish I spent the extra $150 and got the 5400rpm drive on my Dell Inspiron 8100 when I bought it 15 months ago.
Other than the slow drive it rocks.

10/100 is your NIC or plug for networking. So if you ever have a LAN party you'll plug all the computers together using a HUB, that port, and a bunch of cables.

The firewire is a high speed port that is mostly used for trasfering to an external hard drive or a digital video camera.

That is a Pentium 4-M... a Pentium-M is something wholly different. Super fast, and draws little energy. See if you can find one... they're way better then P4-M notebooks.

It's only slightly faster than his so he said he's going to use the next overclocking setting!

I bet Poo gets a new cpu/mobo/ram/vidcard setup before the end of July!
No way in hell will he let a pink notebook beat his desktop beast.
You know until he gets his new hardware he is going to be very moody. Might as well take your new notebook and go on vacation because he's going to be a jealous stick in the mud for the next few weeks.
Guys get very upset when their girl has a faster computer or a faster car. Heaven forbid that the girl has a faster car and a faster computer. That could be grounds for a break up. :lol:

And seriously consider about getting a Pentium-M based laptop, it's a whole different thing compared to P4-M based laptops. Low clockspeed, high performance (like Athlon/Athlon XP), and draws very little power which makes it battery life friendly.

Oh BTW, pink sux.

I'm really not worried about the power it draws. There are two batteries included and if they run out I'm sure I'll be near power to plug it in. It's really not an issue.
The budget is the issue. This is the best laptop that I have found for my price limit. I'm sure I'll be happy with the performace...it IS faster than Poo's computer!

A 2 GHz/1.8 GHz Pentium-M laptop with DDR266 is not going to be faster than an overclocked AXP 1600+. If it's 1.8 GHz, then AXP 1600+ will beat it without overclocking

Well actually, I am going on vacation with my parents this Sunday. Remember me saying a few weeks ago that I was going to miss PooBaa for the 10 days I'll be away.
That is why it's so important that I have the laptop before I go away, otherwise I'll be stuck without a puda for the whole 10 days, which means very little contact with PooBaa or a big phone bill *sighs*

It looks like a nice model.
Don't forget to get a decent carry case.
When I got my Dell I spent an extra $150 on the custom leather carry case. It's worth the investment.
