Hello,

I just installed VTX RADEON 5450 1GB to my old DELL DIMENSION 4700. It's only 305w . but seems to be working so far.

Does anyone have this card in a PC with same or less wattage ?

Only issue i had was today after starting PC , the front amber light was on and the fan like a jet engine. I took out battery and mixed RAM, seems ok now.

One other query regarding games. I heard this isn't a gaming card and it gets a bad name on other forums ( I bought mainly for connection or PC to TV with HDMI.

So I ordered FIFA 12 and Call of Duty. Does anyone have experience of these games running this card with 2GB RAM , 32 bit , Intel 915G Express?

I don't want to get into the business of overclocking.I'm not really a gamer, just want a reasonable screen resolution suggestion for my 19inch LCD and 32 inch TV ?

thanks

Its not the best card for gaming with to be honest. But I guess you are held back by the power supply unit in the system, anything more powerful graphics card wise would force you to have to buy a new PSU to run the system stable. You may struggle with high resolutions and the games you would like to run with the card, but I guess you could turn some of the settings of the card off like AA to improve the situation in regard to frame rates in the games you want to play. The card should be ok for HTPC if you intend to use it as that on the tv though.

thanks, yeah, it's getting a better gaming card without buying PSU. (305w )
Looking internet and some suggest Geforce 8600GTS 512MB, although i don't see a HDMI connection on it.
Any better radeon cards that don't need high power supply. ? 5670 ? 4670 ?

ok, thx, i'll look that one up.

I was homing in on radeon 5670 512MB or 1GB.
I have PCI Express x 1 and PCI Express x 16 so hopefully is compatible.
Not sure what the GGDR5 is on the card.

The 7750 should be compatible. It can run off the power from the PCI Express slot so you are in good shape there. The 7750 should be more powerful than the 5670. Also, make sure you pick up a GDDR5 model, there are a couple of ddr3 models floating around. Stick with 1gb models, for your needs 1gb should be plenty.

thanks again, seems a new card . I was just reading about reviews etc.

I don't know enough about computers, should I get one with CrossFireX or avoid that ?
and it's still a reasonable HTPC card, trying to get a good balance ?

p.s. I did find a comment on a review someone saying people with crap 3.0w will be able to use this card - so thanks and fingers crossed.

The 5450 will play Call of Duty fine. My friend runs CoD on a 4350 on medium at 720P.

I have no idea about FIFA, I've haven't played or followed a sports game since my early childhood when I played NHL 06. It's not that I don't like them, I just never seem to get them.

ok thanks,
I have the 5450 installed now, the games should arrive tomorrow or bit later to test.
I'll probably try them as it's already connected & take it from there.

They weren't expensive, so thought i'd give them a go.
