I have a Palomino 1700+ and I'm looking to upgrade. Mobo is a Gigabyte with the Via KT333 chipset. It'll support all AXP's (I believe). Could someone give me advice on which Athlon is the best bang for the buck in overclocked machines? My HSF is adequate but nothing special, but I have awesome case cooling with three intakes, a top mounted blowhole, two fan psu and a 120 mm exhaust fan. Ambient temp=case temp. The Pally gets up to 55C when running 1595 Mhz (11x145) with the voltage cranked (guess this is good for a Palomino-lol). I am basically asking if the Barton 2500 or the TBred 2100 would be better for the price when overclocked to the max. Just looking for CPU help-unless you all think that upgrading to an NF2 mobo and keeping the Pally would be quicker.

AXP 1700+ Palomino
2x128 (I Know) Crucial PC2700
Gigabyte KT333
WD800-JB
Some burners, ethernet, and other irrelevant junk.

AFAIK, your mobo only supports a 133FSB (non-overclocked) and therefore the highest you could run would be a 2400+, which is also what I recommend. This will provide better performance and will almost certainly run cooler.

OOps. Yeah, I really can't OC to 333 for the Barton like I thought I could. My bad. So, going forward with the TBred B. Would I be better off getting the CPU upgrade or switching to NF2 from the KT333?

Basically:
is 1700+ AXP+NF2 > 2400+ AXP+KT333 or vice versa?

I do some gaming (GF3 graphics card) and some video editing. Otherwise it's basic stuff that a P2 would eat up.
