Thermalright SP-94 or Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu??

I currently am using an SLK-900U but may be going for a new heatsink.

I'm trying to decide which heatsink out of the two I should buy.

Thermalright has heatpipes but Zalman I believe may have a more copper.

If both were to use the exact same fans, which heatsink would stay cooler?

What would you guys prefer?

the SLK-900U is better, by about 5C at 100W

check overclockers.com's heatsink ranking. SP94 comes on top then SLK900U, the Zalman series are pretty behind since they use weak fans. With strong fans I don't think it makes that much difference on their heatsink. Because you can never really install it properly since you'll have to saw up a 92mm and just won't fit properly back into the original fan slot.

yeah I've checked overclockers.com but then when you really look at it, each one uses different fans. I read the reviews and for the Zalman, they said:
"Motherboard results place the Zalman CNPS7000-Cu, at its quietest setting, in the mid rank of P4 heatsinks (Heatsink Ranking) tested to date. At its highest setting, it ranked near the top."

and when I look at the SP-94 it's going at 4838rpm's with a 80mm fan vs the 92mm Zalman going half the rpms at max speed.

Yeah I was thinking about actually cutting up a 92mm Panaflo and replacing the Zalman fan if I did get Zalman.

well i can say that i personally have mounted an slk-900U on a friend's computer with this quiet sunon and the performance amazed me. it really made me a believer in this heatsink. however, it's possible that at low CFM the zalman is better... though i don't really see scientifically why this would be true at all. i guess it's up to you, but i still feel the slk is of a better design

Yeah I do like my slk-900U. Might just stick with that.
The Zalman I believe is more heavy then the slk-900u so I'm thinking the more copper the more surface area it covers, and it's spaced out so a fan can generally blow more air through it. But that's what I see. So I'll just see what others have in mind about which heatsink they'd prefer I guess.

I read a review ones, where the SLK900U used an 80mm 25CFM fan compared with the CNPS7000-CU the SLK900U won by about 2C on full load on a Intel P4 2.6C overclocked to 3.2

if you already have an slk-900U, why are you getting an sp-94? that's gonna be a really low margin of return on your money there...possibly no difference at all

If you're using quiet fan then there's about a 3C difference on extreme overclocked full load. If you are using Delta or Tornado then there's no difference.

I'd go with the CNPS7000-AlCu because it performs very well with very moderate noise levels. Most higher level coolers relly on very powerfull, noisy fans to get better performance.

Then again i don't think that's a worthy upgrade from SLK900U.

That would depend on your priorities probably. I doubt the SLK900U can produce better cooling at the same noise level.

At the same airflow yes the SLK900U is still better.

Well pretend as if I were to buy a new heatsink. And say that I could modify the Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu heatsink to any 92 mm fan I wanted.

Or say that I used the exact same 92mm fan on both heatsinks. Which one would come out on top?

Like i said before you can't saw up a fan and remount it properly on the CNPS7000A-CU, so the SLK900U would still be better. The review here Says that the SLK900U is slightly better using fans at the same CFM, and the SP94 is better than SLK900U by about 2-3C using low CFM fans, so the Thermalright products are still better.

With SP-94 i can use Papst to Panaflo to Vantec to Delta to no name brand fan, and as long they are 80/90/92 mm I know my CPU loaded temp is not going to break 55¢XC anytime soon. Now please, anyone, please show me how to put a fan inside Zalman's 7000A-Cu within 15 minutes or less without worry about bending fin/breaking fan casing and all that?

Well you just have to hack up a 92mm fan, the stock fan on the CNPS7000A-Cu is attached by 2 screws, once you hacked up that 92mm fan you want to use you just epoxy it on the heatsink.
