Forum Network Providers : Verizon Use the LG VX6100's GPS

I recently got a LG VX6100 phone and I was looking around and I found
the GPS feature. I did some looking and I could not figure out how to
use it. How do you? Is there any way that there can be a program
running on your computer that would track the position of your phone?
Is there any way that you can view your location on your phone, in case
you get lost.

Thanks for any help, I think that it would be really cool if there was
a way for this to work.

Kevin

To get to all the GPS controls, go to menu and hit 0 then enter 00000
as the service code and go to Test Fields -> GPSone. I'm not sure, but
I don't think it will normally let you track the location of the phone;
its privacy thing. But that would be useful.

This group really needs a FAQ!

Posted back in Feb:

I do not have a 6100, I have a VZ4400 and the following works on my
phone.
It might be close enough for you to get it working on yours.

Make sure the phone is enabled to use the GPS function, not just the
E911
function.
Go To Menu
Settings [8]
Change Location [8] to Location On
Press end to clear out back to the start screen

Go To Menu -> 0
Service Code -> 000000
Go To Field Tests [2]

Go To gpsOne [6]
Change gpsOne Test Screen [2] to on.
Change Test Num [4] to 922

Go To Setting [4]
Modify the settings by changing:
transport type [3] to DBM
lock status [4] to off
test mode [5] to off
sample count [6] to 1

Press end to clear out back to the start screen

Press 922 then SEND. Some gibberish will start coming out of the
phone.
Stay on the line and the Longitude and Latitude coordinates will be
displayed on the screen.

Go to mapquest and enter your coordinates:

Have you tried this recently? I try it and I get a Verizon error
message saying that my call cannot be completed as dialed. Also I
cannot change/find some of those settings on my phone.

You need to set ALL of the settings before this will work. On my LG
VX3200, these were found under "NV". If you miss one of these, the
phone will treat 922 as a phone call.

Also, once you get the GPS result, scroll through the screens for
altitude, accuracy, etc.

Note too the that "#" key lets you test the phones hardware itself,
everything from the LCD to the motor for vibration mode.

Couldn't find the Settings menu.

When I did this, it came up with "GPS Test" or something like that but
no coordinates. It rang a few times and then i heard "911 what's your
emergency"...oops!

You didn't do anything wrong, for some unknown and illogical reason, in
some markets, 922 forwards to 911. I had that happen to me as well. I
wish Verizon would have chosen test numbers that don't get forwarded to 911.
