First PC for me in 12 years (Mac ever since) so please forgive the ignorance.

First off, my setup: 2500+ Barton, Abit NF7-S, 1G Corsair DDR 3200, Radeon 9800 NP.

Regarding overclocking: the BIOS on my mobo allows me to select either a 2500+ or 3200+. If I select the 3200+, it sets the RAM speed to 200 and seems to work fine. Is this all I really need to do to run my 2500+ at 3200+ speed? It can't be this easy... Anything else I need to be changing or anything I need to watch? If I can do a simple overclock just with that setting, I will. I don't need to squeeze out extra speed with other tweaks right now, but if I need to change anything else to run at 3200+, please let me know.

Your help and expertise appreciated. Yes, I tried the search function, but most the messages are speaking of tweaks I don't understand.

That's all you need to do, if it's stable in Prime95 then perfect it's not stable then you should raise the vcore and vdimm a bit otherwise it's fine.

Hmmm, if I set to 3200+ it stalls after the BIOS screen on boot; Windows does not load. I tried with the BIOS CPU Interface setting Enabled (use overclocked CPU/FSB paramaters) and Disabled (use most stable). Which of these would I want? And any ideas why Windows won't boot?

Sorry, I'm a rank beginner. I don't want any extreme OC'ing, just to run my 2500+ at 3200+.

enable advanced settings, increase the vcore, because your CPU wants more power. Feed it to 1.70 vcore see if it boots. Vdimm up to 2.8 if you want to since corsair's warrenty covers up to that.

Download the latest bios and disable enhanced interface.
Then set the cpu vcore to 1.7v and try to boot up.

You could also try manually selecting the multiplier 10.5 and the FSB 200 and see if that goes...
