Sigh, I really do hate to write this, but after being a faithfull reader for many years (since my college days), I just had to get this load of my shoulders. THG has been my #1 source of information on new hardware and , but lately I've been annoyed by the "not-so-international" aspect of the page, the www.tomshardware.com page I once knew to be "international" has now become totally americanized. Now don't misunderstand me or mistake me for being anti USA, I've got nothing against anybody, but for one not that educated in german I find THG.DE to be too hard to read. And not being able to join the competitions is a bit annoying, but it's all this combined that bites me. Ahh well I guess I'm ranting again, as usual, besides Norway ain't that big a place, but some competitions for europeans also on THG.com would have been nice. And there are huge gatherings or LAN parties in other parts of the world except in the states, but alas they've never been mentioned even once on THG. Denmark used to have huge parties, as well as Finland and Norway. Norway still does, though my age is abit out of sync with the ones that attend those parties. Check out www.gathering.org (norwegian LAN party) is way bigger than millionmanlan that THG advertises for. Atleast if you read the info on MML and TG (the gathering). For the number phreaks: MML last year 700, LanWar: 2100 and The gathering : 5100.. You do the math. Besides I think THG.com should attend other parties elsewhere too, not only in the US. It's just these kind of small things that adds up my doubts about this page. Sorry folks I really don't hold THG as high as I once did. Not even my 2 cents.

Yeah, I totally agree. Norway has a measly 4.5million within it's borders. But even if the San Diego area has more than Scandinavia, it should have even more people attending their Lan Parties. Dang, even Sweden had cool parties way back in Amiga and C64 days. Nowadays the C64 and Amiga is long dead, or is it?.. In Germany there was or is, I'm not quite sure if the event is over, but the C64 is not quite dead, and some enthusiasts held a huge party, back in time I think, it was called to celebrate the C64... Lot's of good swedes in the C64 scene, lots of good scandinavians in the C64 scene but... that's long gone. My point is that if it's such an enormous event that a measly 2100 people attends a Lanparty (LanWar) in a country with 250+million (hmm I may be off here but..) is a huge event, then what is it when more than 5000 attends a party in a small country? Sigh, it's not even mentioned.. And THG.com should be for all countries, not only for the inhabitants of the US.

There are FIVE european versions of THG. Maybe your real complaint is that there isn't a version for Scandinavia.

Nope... Sigh, I do not read hungarian, polish, turkish or french. I do understand a bit german, but that's the limit of my skills. Sigh, I just meant that the .COM of THG used to be for all, now it isn't, which I find sad.

Lol... he he .. nod.. not such an insane proposal really, the US imports alot of the best heads from India, and India is promoting itself as a country that has very good IT colleges / schools. Though I'm not into sanskrit either :-)

I don't know how you stay so thin Grub.

As for the LANs in Europe. That is one of the goals of what I have been working on. I would love to have a LAN that big. And then network those LAN acrooss the seas into the one in the states. Imagine Dreamhack and and a THG LAN of a few thousand people. That is one massive drain of the worlds electricity.

Just to add to that...

dstell and I have a lot of other ideas. This is just one step in the progression to what we are working to achieve. The largest LAN in the US was QC2002. They had 1,385 gamers. As of 9:45AM EST 06-23-2003 the prepaid registration for MML2 is at 941 gamers.

Do that math. That is a 34% increase over the event last year. The stuff that we have been working at is showing results. And as I stated... this is only the beginning.

I agree that attendence at other LANs would be a nice addition to THG. David is the guy that has covered all of the ones in the past. He is based here in the US. I can't speak for THG, but that would mean that he would have to travel to Europe, AU, etc. or that THG would have to get other people to cover those events. But I agree that I would like to see the others covered.

If someone wants to pay me a salary and benefits to fly me around world to cover LANs I would be willing to do it.
