Hey all, I was just wondering what a good aftermarket cooler is for my Radeon 9600 Pro. Right now I can oc it to 475/365 with artifacts and 465/355 without any artifacts, I have a slot exhaust fan sitting under the card and now am trying to find a aftermarket chipset and ram cooler for the card so I can see how much farther take it? Thanks for your help!

Zalman 80-HP all the way! Forget ramsinks. Having this cooler on will lower overall card temperatures and let you overclock the memory more....

Check out <A HREF="http://www.frozencpu.com" target="_new">FrozenCPU</A> and <A HREF="http://www.ocsystem.com" target="_new">OCsystem</A> OCsystem sometimes has things on sale which are REALLY cheap.

Get this: I had a passive heatsink from an old Hurcules GeForce2 MX card. I put that on my AIW Radeon 9600 Pro, and added a 40mm CPU fan (from a Pentium 1 system). The fan runs slower, so it's much quieter, and it's thicker, so it puts out as much air. AT 500MHZ, MY 9600 PRO CHIP IS STILL COLD!!!

How is this possible? Having the fan mounted so that it's not flush with the sink fins means it draws cooler air. And that old small passive heatsink has MUCH more suface area than most top end GPU coolers.

So it's quiter, cost me nothing, and runs near ambient temps, what's the downside? The added thickness will block access to the next expansion slot under the card.

I test the VPU by touching it's sink while running. I have good contact between the VPU and sink also, so I know they are approximately the same temp. I don't touch the back of the card because there are circuits back there!

Temp of the sink is always close to ambient. In fact, even at 525MHz, the sink is only slightly warm, but my system power can't handle the added load for more than a few minutes.
