Hey all,

I'm not an overclocker, and I just want to find a heatsink that will perform reliably and effectively. I'm buying an Athlon XP 2800+ Barton, and when prices fall (1-2 years from now), I'll upgrade to a 3200+.

What are your thoughts on the TT Volcano 10+ shown <A HREF="http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/volcano/si/a1671.htm" target="_new">here</A>?

I have heard some bad things about Thermaltake, but I don't know the context of the comments (or where specifically I saw them). Even the boxed cooler would suffice, but I'm looking for a little bit more headroom.

The Volcano 10+ is:

- Recommended by AMD for 3200+
- Within AMD's weight spec
- Reasonably quiet (based on mfg. specs)
- Reasonably cheap ($23)

I haven't been able to find any online reviews.

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks again,

Wiggum

Surprisingly high (<b>edit - I mean "high" as in good, not high number</b>) claim of only 0.50 C/W thermal resistance. A 21 CFM fan would seemingly be too weak to obtain such a result. What's also surprising is the amount of noise (37 dBA) from that 21 CFM. 37 dBA is mid-loud.

It's great if the claims are all true but I doubt it. Personally, if it were me, I'd wait for a review for confirmation.

I have absolutely no proof, but you asked for thoughts.

I wont touch a TT HSF with a 10 yard stick after converted to Thermalright. In fact, I had hack sawed my Alpha 8045 into little pieces to be my RAM sink for my Ti4200 since its performance is night and day against a SLK-900A.

As far as AMD weight limitation, there is some truth in there since CPU socket can only take on so much torque from HSF before it snap off, then again, how many of you are placing your beloved computer in 50g/6 axles shock/vibration machine when it is off in real life? almost all Aluminum CASES failed if you ever try one with HDD inside.

Well the Volcano10's fan only brings like 20CFM, and the heatsink's only 280grams so give it a break.
