I am buying a P4 3.2 and a Abit IC7 Max3. I was wondering what I can safely overclock the 3.2 to with just air cooling. Also what memory should I get with this package? I was looking at the OCZ dual channel PC-4000 Gold 2 x 512. I would like to get the maximum performance I can safely without the hassles of water or refrigerant cooling. What heat sink and fan combo works best on the P4?
Thanks

If you're using air and 3.2G there's absolutely no point getting anything more than PC3500 memory because you'll have trouble at 3.5-3.6G. If you're buying 3.2 then buy the Prometia with it.

A 3.2 will OC to 3.6 safely, it has a 16 multiple and you should be looking at 1:1 memory ratio

225x16 = 3.6Ghz running 225 2-5-2-2 is very good performance so get HyperX PC3500 C2 or comperable timing/speed.

Sorry that no one else has answered your HS/HSF question. I would recommend (for best performance, not necessarily eardrum health) to get a ThermalRight the SLK-947U with a 92mm Vantec Tornado. The HS is all copper and massive, it also has great airflow. The 92mm Vantec Tornado is a besat, LOUD, VERY POWERFUL (119CFM), and the best that money can buy for performance.

SP94 is better, if you want silence then the zalman CNPS7000A-CU is the best choice.

Yeah, listen to scottchen--he knows his sh!t...I'm just a failed RDRAM overclocker :frown: . I'd go for the Vantec Tornado just because I use monitor headphones that block so much noise...and because my speakers are kickass when I don't use my headphones.
EDIT: I'd also do anything to drown out the noise of my roommate.

Oh well RDRAM performs pretty decent at stock speeds.

Thanks for all the replies. I have decided to buy the OCZ PC3500 2 x 512 Platinum Limited Edition memory. I think it has the best timings @ DDR 400 & DDR433. I think I need to do a little more homework on the heatsink fan combo. I might OC the 3.2 just a little bit :)

I would recommend a Thermalright SP94 with a 92mm Panaflo or Papst fan.

I have read some reviews on the SP94 and its awsome. I was wondering how loud that 92mm tornado fan is though. I have a Thermaltake Xaser 3 V2000A case which is loud enough, I don't want a fan that is a lot louder. Any other fans you can recommed for the SP94

Tornado on 5V is still clearly audible.
