I have the AC II Family Share plan with 2 phones here in NY. Would it be
possible to add my brother to the plan...only thing is he lives in Florida
and he would like to port his Florida number over from Cingular? I
understood in the past with roaming Verizon would notice there were quite a
few calls placed outside of the "home" area and would get you on that. But
now with no roaming off of Verizon what difference does it make where the
calls are being made...it's all Verizon. So basically I have two
questions...Can there be different area codes on the phones in a family
share plan? There would be 2 phones within the 917 area code and 1 phone
with a 561 area code. And would I be able to port my brothers number over
to MY account? Thanks!

It matters only where there is no Verizon network (native or extended). Then
instead of roaming charges, you simply have no service. Unless you travel
into rural areas it should not be a problem.
Also note that in much of Florida Verizon is solely at 1900 Mhz, because
Cingular and AT&T are the A&B carriers. So check this out before you change.
In areas of Florida that were GTE, Verizon is likely the A or B carrier. In
areas that were Southern Bell (most of the state) AT&T is A or B, and
Cingular is likely B or A). It matters, because coverage is better on 800
Mhz.

It should not be a problem, but you may want to turn your brother into your
child away at college. I'd think that the carriers are not anxious for
extended families, geographically separated, to be included on family plans.

I was told last summer that it's not possible to have one number in the
NY/NJ area & another in the Fl area. Let us know if the policy has changed.

In Florida, Verizon does not have the old GTE areas. That went to Alltel.
Verizon bought PrimeCo, and they are totally 1900 Mhz.
Also, you cannot have a phone on a share plan with a phone no. from outside
your region. Tried, but wouldn't allow.

Won't they have to divest one or the other as a condition of the merger? If
so, who is buying?
