fan with outer bearings

I remember someone talking about a silent fan that had bearigns on the outside of the fan (not in the middle as usual). This meant the fan had no edges to its blades, which are responsible for a majority of the noise production.
Can anyone remember the name of these fans? extensive googling had yeilded little for me.

I think what you're looking for are TMD (tip magnetic driving) fans...
