500/770 with a fan blowing at it, got tired of that and backed it down to 500/760. Can't get the thing to stay stable at higher VPU clocks, even at 505MHz it's running cool but crashes anyway. RAM overheats at 770 without the aid of a fan.

Not a huge fan of the 9600 series, rather get the 9500. Could return or exchange it but they will not do it on the basis of you cannot get it to do more that it was advertised.

Can't exchange it or get money back, since I didn't pay anything for it. I got it free for a review.

well, in my defense, i atleast guess that can play half-life (original) at a resolution higher than the extreme lowest with it at the smallest size with the least colour? lol....

I published the review a long time ago, I praised the card for being so good, even overclocking well. But as good as it did, mine didn't do nearly as well as the ones in other reviews, which is what I'm complaining about here.

Whiner!

Wish my ram went as high as yours, but glad my core goes higher. Wanna trade parts, then we'd have one killer card.

I think the R9600 series has the widest variety of OCs of any other card/chip on the market, even with the 'same' parts.

I like mine though.

BTW, have you thought of the Volt-Mod? I'm not sure if it's exactly the same on the AIW or not.

Speaking of Half Life (I know-- off subject) I haven't played the first one but I've been told it rocks. Should I go out and get the platinum pack with all the goodies on it?I like unreal tournament ( not the new one) and other stuff like that.

Thanks

500/770... I got 450/680 on mine, then again, I havn't finished with it and I have a GigaCube one with 3.3ns memory (so I was told after giving someone what it read on the chips).

I know what everyone's been wondering - 2^33634943-1 IS NOT PRIME. Now, wasn't that worth running Prime95 for a month to know?

Samsung. getting my grand-dad to make me some 1337 RAMsinks on sunday.
I know I can push the core more (is that because it's ATI?), but don't know how much more.

That's true, ramsinks are a gamble, they may decrease overclockability.

how could they decrease overclockability?

I have no idea, i read that on Rage3d forums, when i was doing research on what kind of ramsinks i should use on my old 9800pro.

The chips are hot to the touch now, wouldn't cooling them down help me OC more? Is there are way to up the voltage a bit, will that help?

Hello i'm new to this forum :) , does anybody know how to tell if an ATI has samsung (or any other make) 2.8ns?
December 22, 2003 6:38:05 PM

physically looking at the memory chip, if you see a -30 or -3.0 or -28 or -2.8 then that will designate the Ns of the memory. Also the manufacturer will be printed on the chip.

They both signify 350mhz, however the samsung chips are really saying they run at up to 349mhz while the hynix is rating theirs for 357, its just a rounding issue more than anything probably Hynix is too lazy to add an extra digit or something.

There's a couple things. RAMsinks won't increase the maximum INITIAL clock, but they CAN prevent overheating over time. For example, my RAM runs 385MHz for over 5 minutes of 3D-Mark before it overheats and crashes the system. If I can reduce that heat buildup, perhaps it would run 385MHz indefinately.

But poorly applied RAMsinks can add a THERMAL BARRIER, it's important to use good thermal compound and have a sufficiently thin layer.

wait...don't you use J.B. weld? Although not as bad as thermal tape, that still is not the best transfer material...

Yes, it's a metal-filled epoxy, as is AS epoxy. As long as you spread it thin enough and get the trapped air out, it's fairly good.

It sticks better to clean, roughened steel, but the major part there is they would normally glue across the entire floor seem, that's a large surface area. I wouldn't trust it for joining an A pillar.

I work at a Lincoln/mercury car dealership(i've also worked at 3 other car dealerships), and you wouldn't believe some of the shady things we do there.
I've used JB weld to replace emblems and cheap ass aftermarket chrome moldings.
The best is when people say there new car is still in the "breaking" period.
Trust me.. the first 40 miles on that car has been beaten the shite out of so bad that stepping on the gas isn't going to loosen any of the engine seals up as bad as they are already loosened.
Nothing is what it seems at a car dealership. Just remember you think your getting a good deal but realistically you're getting the same deal everyone else got. They just overprice the car more to give you a "better" deal.
