My sucky P4 2.6C

Requires 1.70v to run 3250MHz, this BIOS setting provides an actual voltage of 1.72-1.76v, too high for my comfort, and that's with the CPU under 40C.

Well if temp's fairly low I guess you're ok then.

Temps are low but I keep the thing at 1.65v/242MHz bus simply because I don't want to erode the transistors (yes, this does happen in electronics).

My 2.6C runs fine at 1.625v/242MHz bus/3.16GHz. That's definately faster than a 2.4C at 3.0GHz. And I bet it would run at 3.0GHz/231MHz FSB/ 1.525v. But I want to run it at 3250 and less than 1.75v.

what board do you have?
I want to make sure I don't get it, just in case it is the board.

P4 2.6c at 3.25, Abit IC7-G Max3, OCZ pc 4000, 2X raptors in a raid, and ATI 9700 pro 390/324.

Stock. It had been running at or below 40C. Today I got it up to 43C.

Hehe, I have the P4C800-E, which is supposed to be the best board money can buy for overclocking.

I have read that they have problems with keeping the cpu voltage stable. I wonder if that is your problem.
Also that is the board I was looking to order this week. The last thing is: what about your northbridge chip, is it getting to hot maybe?

P4 2.6c at 3.25, Abit IC7-G Max3, OCZ pc 4000, 2X raptors in a raid, and ATI 9700 pro 390/324.

My CPU voltage in INCREDIBLY unstable, varying by as much as 0.1v! And that's far greater than my power supply lines. Do you think it's a defective board? A design problem? Any links to information on this specific board?

.1v! If memory serves me right that is out of the design tolerances of the p4 cpu, i think vcore needs to be stable within .05v, but don't quote me.

I really wouldn't trust that hardware monitor much though, get out a volt meter and check the vcore from Vss to Vcc...

hardwareboss are you sure you wanna do that on stock cool?! I mean like you said it's alrdy unstable in halo.

Today I managed to get the vCore to swing from 1.61v to 1.73v at the 1.675v setting, all while the power supply was providing 3.1-3.2v, 5.1-5.2v, and 12.1-12.2v. Now, that's a hell of a lot of CPU voltage fluctuation considering the amount of power supply fluctuation.

That sounds about right(from what I have read). So you have abit who has an unstable voltage for ram or you have asus who has an unstable voltage for cpu. I might have to go with msi or epox.

P4 2.6c at 3.25, P4P800(soon to be P4C800 dlx-e), OCZ pc 4000, 2X raptors in a raid, and ATI 9700 pro 390/324.

i would dump that board...

Just lie and say that your cpu is running unstable at stock speeds and you have noticed erratic voltage fluctuations...

yeah, but it also seems that Asus is aware with the problem and you should have no problem with rma,s, according to my friend who LOVES his mobo! which is saying alot. he used to hate Asus mobos with a passion!
