I built my first system a few weeks ago, I have no knowlege about OCing, but if it is a completely free lunch, why not give it a try? However, I am worried about OCing might shorten the CPU's life span. Can someone please tell me if it does hurt CPU just a little bit? or not at all. Thanks
More aboutdoes reduce life time
You go with 400Mgz or 600Mgz is fine. When you go beyound that you will need better kooling plus shortens life of cpu.
Don't go 1G, my CPU died from that, i don't have watercool.
Ok, I have a AMD 64 3200+ currently running at the stock speed whcih is 2 GHz I believe.. So I can OC it to 2.4 at least?
As long you keep it cool it should not kill it prematurely.
Barton 2500+ @ 2200mhz (10x220 vcore @ 1.775) Asus A7N8X Dlx 440 FSB 1gb Geil GD pc3500 Dual Channel (2-3-3-6) Segata 80gb SATA 8.5ms seek ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(420/700)
Who the heck keeps their Cpu for 10 years?
But wouldn't overclocking the CPU shorten the life of the motherboard and ram as well? (I'm new to overclocking too :S)
You OC 400 Mhz or 600Mhz you will be ok. Should last 3 years or more.
How long do you plan on keeping your puter before you upgrade again?
dunno when i will upgrade i'm still looking at what technology is coming out but i might keep my motherboard and ram so if oc does shorten its lifetime then...oooppps haha So OC does shorten the life of the motherboard and ram?
