I was really sick of my Torando and my Delta fans, both pushing almost 60dB, Both are still very loud even running at 5V. I then figured out that most of the noise is from vibration, so removing the fan-guards helped, but it was still very loud, so I got some foam, and some epoxy, glued foams on all 4 sides of the 2 fans, now to my best estimate it's about 30% quieter than before at 5V. On full blast, it eliminated the rattling noise, but the high-pitched whine sound is still there. For all you loud fans owner out there, try this, it really helps.

I got myself a big ass rubber band so i plan to cut squares and piercing a hole in middle and using those a s spacers for the fans. I just hope they wont "dry out" too fast.

Back on topic, so yeah, it isn't as loud anymore, if i close my bedroom door, i could barely hear any noise in the hallway. After reconfiguring my computer, I set my Vcore up to 1.75, now I could run at 260FSB, temperature remains under 45C under the heaviest load possible, (Prime95, PCmark2004, Sisoft Sandra 2004 at same time). I think i'll try 1.8 sometimes this week, then see if computer's still stable, i'm trying to hit the 276FSB mark.

no, it's about the same as it in the case without the foam mod, but i can live with it. But every time when my mom walks into my room she gets pissed at the noise, i just tell her to piss off, and remind her that it's my room, and my computer. no i'm just joking, she just yells at me then leaves.

The 60mm Delta or the 80mm Delta, I've been thinking of getting the 80mm one for my SLK-947U and shutting it up with a Zalman Fan Mate, would it be reasonably quite?

I know what everyone's been wondering - 2^33634943-1 IS NOT PRIME. Now, wasn't that worth running Prime95 for a month to know?

Actually, I already have a 92mm Theremaltake fan on the SLK-947U HS but it doesn't fit very well and I know that the thick Delta or Tornado (80x80x38) fans would fit much better.

Since this is on the topic of silence, I would recommed Zalman. I now have a Zalman HSF and a Zalman PSU. One with out the other is like Laurel without Hardy. I could easily leave my computer and go to sleep and not worry about the noise it makes.

Next on th list is getting rid of my Northbridge 40mm fan it amkes a annoying high pitched noise so a Zalman ZM-NB47J heatsink will be arriveing soon. If i'm still not happy after that its goodbye to my Msi 5600FX GPU fan.

Go to your local home center - Ace, Hank, Home Depot. A package of rubber grommets to slip on the screws between the fan and case, and a roll of adhesive back foam insulator - for doors and windows. For under $5 you have enough to 'silence' 5 fans.

For it is not what is seen, but what is not seen.
